Who We Are

YASC is a not-for-profit organization with the mandate to promote skilled trades. Our members include Union and Non-Union Contractors, Distributors, Manufacturers and Employee members. The YASC advisory board includes a variety of industry organizations, such as the Ontario Electrical League, CLAC, BTS and Progressive Contractors Association.
YASC regularly reviews recognized training facilities to ensure they meet YASC employer standards.

Established June 2008, Youth Apprenticeship Standards Council (YASC) is a not-for-profit organization with the mandate to promote skilled trades & safety training and link member employers with potential employees through our resume board. YASC’s goal is to serve as a recruitment and job link organization, connecting employers with well-trained, skilled individuals. YASC will ensure that all individuals meet the required fundamentals skills and safety certifications necessary for member contractors.

These services are specific to YASC employer members. The biggest challenge for the employers in skilled trades is recruiting qualified technicians either at a journeyman or apprenticeship level. YASC offers a variety of programs to assist employers in finding the best people for their industry, which may include distribution, manufacturing or working directly with contractors. YASC member employers will have access to complete safety training services at a valued price.

YASC provides members with access to its employer base in an effort to meet the recruitment needs for the industry. To qualify as a YASC member, candidates must complete an assessment, an interview and reference checks. The successful completion of a YASC recognized pre-apprenticeship program meeting YASC academic standards will guarantee access to the job link program our industry members recruit and hire from. If you are a candidate looking to become a YASC member who currently holds a Cofq or is a registered apprentice, you will be required to complete a practical skills assessment to qualify for YASC membership and the job link program. Youth Apprenticeship Standards Council works with Non-Union and Open Shop Unions and any closed union that provide authorization to work directly with employers.

YASC’s goal is to serve as a recruitment and job link organization, connecting employers with well-trained, skilled individuals. Our mission is to promote skilled trades and bridge the gap for people interested in a trade. YASC represents both employers and job seekers in an effort to bridge the gap to enter a trade, successfully complete an apprenticeship, and allow you to re-enter the workforce.
